The Walworth Barbour American International School in Israel is a private, American curriculum, English language school located in Even Yehuda, a residential community 20 kilometers north of Tel Aviv. Established under the auspices of the American Embassy over 50 years ago with only 22 students, the school has a current enrollment of 500 students, grades K-12, and a faculty and staff of 75.  The nineteen acre campus has 3 separate school areas as well as, a theater, gymnasium, seven science laboratories, a 15,000 volume library, a cafeteria, computer labs, and a variety of special purpose rooms (darkroom, music rooms, art rooms, fitness center, and video studio). Outdoors, we have two playing fields, tennis courts, swimming pool, basketball courts, playground facilities, and beautiful gardens connected by patios and lounge areas.

The student body represents 50 nationalities. Approximately 33% of our students are Americans, 15% are Israelis and the remainder represent countries from allover the world. Many of our families are in Israel with the diplomatic corps, but we also have a substantial number of families here with multi-national companies.

The faculty comprises 80 teachers and administrators, most of who are of American origin. Approximately twenty percent are Israelis and another twenty percent come from the U.K., Australia, South Africa and other countries. Two-thirds of our staff are permanent residents of Israel, and the remainder are U.S. hires. Over forty percent of the staff have advanced degrees beyond their bachelors.

AIS is accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (USA). That accreditation is based on certain characteristics of AIS which reflect our excellence. The curriculum is a comprehensive American curriculum, implemented with materials and texts purchased from U.S. publishers. The teacher-pupil ratio is 1:10, reflecting our commitment to small classes.

Organizationally, AIS is a K to grade 12 school. Common philosophical underpinnings unite all grade levels and subject areas. For day-to-day operations, we are structured in three levels, elementary school (K-5), middle school (6-8), and high school (9-12). AIS is committed to cultivating tomorrow’s world citizens.
