MR. RICHARD OUTZEN
Rich Outzen is a U.S. Army officer
serving in Israel
as Assistant Army Attaché. In
this capacity, he manages numerous cooperative programs between the U.S. Army
and the Israeli Defense Forces, and serves as liaison and advisor to the Ambassador
and military headquarters in the U.S.,
Europe, and Israel.
Rich has a Bachelor’s Degree in
History from Dartmouth College and a Master’s in Middle Eastern Security
Studies from the Naval
Postgraduate School. He speaks five languages, and has successfully
served in a variety of command and staff positions. In sixteen years of military service, he has
successfully managed millions of dollars in equipment, facilities, unit
budgets, and America’s
most important asset – its youth. He has
also been responsible for operating two major educational organizations within
the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command, as well as teaching college courses
to soldiers pursuing undergraduate degrees in their off hours.
A native Californian, Rich has
served overseas in Turkey, Germany, and Iraq. These foreign tours have developed an
appreciation for other cultures and an ability to work closely with
international professionals, qualities the Army acknowledged in selecting him
for his current diplomatic position.
Rich is married to Hamiyet Outzen and has three
children at AIS – Eva, Bella, and Zachary, in the Middle and High Schools for
the 2007-2008 school year.
School Board Participation
AIS is a
unique and excellent institution that offers our children outstanding
educational opportunities in a fascinating location and period of history. AIS provides these opportunities through first rate teaching
and administration, and is set to move into a state-of-the-art facility; the
critical piece remaining is an involved and supportive community of parents and
supporters. Our family is dedicated to
supporting effective learning at home and at school, and we have supported many
of the activities and programs since arriving last summer.
Rich is Board Chairman and is currently
serving on the Building, Curriculum, and Negotiating Board Sub-Committees.
