Frequently asked questions

• What is expected from the ambassador?
An ambassador is the lead representative of a delegation. The ambassador participates in the parade during the Opening Ceremony and has a speech of 75 seconds there. The ambassador speeches talk about the country generally, and about some problem/issue that concerens the country. Humour is allowed and welcomed in the speeches, but keep it realistic. This year the ambassador speeches are going to be 25 seconds shorter - which means that you, ambassador, would have 50 seconds to deliver your speech.

• Is passing notes allowed?
Yes, passing notes IS allowed, but only through the note-passers or the admins. Please keep the note-passing appropriate to this Model UN conference. Remember not to pass too many notes, because in this situation note-passing would be suspended.

• Do we need to attend both training sessions?
No, the training session is intended for newcoming delegates who don't know how prepare for a Model UN conference. If you've already been to one training session, it should be enough for you.

• Do we have to pay for the T-shirts?
      Not this year.

• Can we add one more delegate to our 7 members delegation or 8 if it is Security Council?
      No.

• Can I be a part of the 8th committee?
No. There's a certain number of participants in the 8th committee for it to be effective. If your school didn't get one... There's always next year :)

• Can I be a delegate in the Security Council?
It depends what country your school is representing. The UN Security Council is a body with 15 members - five permanent (UK, USA, Russia, China and France) and ten non-permanent members. This year, the non-permanent countries are: Italy, Panama, Costa Rica, Burkina Faso, Vietnam, Croatia, Indonesia, Libya, South Africa and Belgium. If your school represents one of these countries you may be the delegate of the country in the Security Council. Of course, your school has got to agree with that :)

• Is the one Security Council delegate also the ambassador of the country?
If there is only one delegate for the country (no matter what committee), he's also the ambassador. Same for NGOs.
